Hello, 3rd Scholars and Parents!

As we wrap up our extra-long break, I wanted to share some of the things, myself and Mrs. Lynch have been up to!

First, Mrs. Lynch and I worked on A LOT of landscaping this break. We pulled a lot of weeds and grass from our front and back yards. With the rain we received last week, it’s been going quick.

The next thing I did was playing with my cats, Cosmo and Gustav. They usually do three things: sleep, eat, or play. They’re both spritely cats, and that makes it tricky to get pictures of them playing, but Mrs. Lynch and I have a lot of pictures of them sleeping. One of my favorite games to play is hide-and-seek with Cosmo. He is really good at seeking, but he is not very good at hiding. Sometimes he forgets to cover his tail and butt, which makes it very easy for Dr. Lynch to find him.

The other thing I did was play a lot of trombone. I included a picture of all the trombones I play. I’m really excited because I’m working on preparing my own concert for the next school year. I very much enjoy collaborating with other musicians and sharing our music with the community.

All the best!

Welcome to 3rd Grade Music

Welcome to the 2019-2020 school year! I’m excited to be returning to Archway Arete as the new 3rd grade music teacher. I spent half of last year as a 3rd grade TA and had the privilege of subbing for Mrs. Kaye in music on numerous occasions.

Prior to joining the specials team at Archway Arete I was completing my last year of graduate school. In 2014 my wife (Brianna, 5A lead teacher) and I moved from Moscow, Idaho so I could continue studying trombone performance at Arizona State University. I completed my Masters of Music (MM) in Performance in 2016 and returned to ASU in the fall of 2019 to pursue my Doctorate of Musical Arts (DMA) in Performance. I just completed my doctorate this last spring. I maintain an active private music studio and perform professionally throughout the Phoenix area.

Left: ASU Graduate Ceremony (MM), May 2016 with Prof. Douglas Yeo (retired ASU, Boston Symphony)
Right: ASU Graduate Ceremony (DMA), May 2019 with wife, Brianna

Over the course of the year, our scholars will be learning many new things about music. We will have a song of the month for every month of the school year, we will be preparing music for a fall and spring concert, learning about music theory, developing our ears through sight-singing, and learning about some master musicians. For a specific breakdown of the academic year, please see the pictures below:

2019-2020 Music Curriculum Map, see Grade 3

Outside of teaching, performing, and all things trombone I love spending time with my cats. I have two cats, Cosmo and Gustav. Your scholars will have many stories to share about their (mis)adventures. I also enjoy watching soccer, especially supporting our own local Phoenix Rising FC.

I am looking forward to exploring music with your scholars this year!
